P4P announces Family Day September 22, 2008
Since 2001, Family Day, a day to eat dinner with your children is recognized nationally on the fourth Monday in September. This year, family day will be celebrated on September 22.
The program encourages parents to frequently eat dinner with their children is sponsored by the Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse [CASA]. P4P locally organizes the event.
P4P traditionally encourages participation in the event from each of the elementary schools in Wyoming County. This year, pupils from the County middle school will participate. The classrooms with the highest student participation from each school will receive a WebKinz® [grades K-4] or a book bag [grades 5-8]. A randomly placed iPod® Shuffle will be placed in a book bag.
The cost of this promotion is approximately $2300. P4P has asked local communities to help with the program. Program coordinator is asking each municipality to donate $115 to help cover the cost of the incentive items. P4P will match the donated amount with a combination of funding and personnel time [in-kind services]. At this time [September 17, 2008], the Towns of Perry, Castile, Eagle, Attica, Arcade, Wethersfield and the Village of Wyoming have made donations. Also, Ganz and Apple have donated portions of their incentives.
Additionally, a coupon flier will be distributed in each of the local Shoppers. Families will have a choice to fix dinner or to eat out.

MISSION STATEMENT::The most precious resource Wyoming County has to offer is our children.
To maintain and promote healthy and safe communities in which they can
grow and prosper are the responsibilities of all adults in all areas of
our children’s lives. This goal will be achieved through the commitment
of dedicated people working together to reduce alcohol and substance
abuse among our youth.
OUR PURPOSE::To
encourage partnerships between groups in our Wyoming County communities
such as youth clubs, school groups, recreational programs,
youth-serving agencies, and faith-based organizations, parents,
students and other concerned adults. Through these partnerships, we
provide prevention strategies that target underage drinking, driving
while impaired, cigarette smoking, and marijuana use. We bring
scientifically-proven prevention programs delivered by professional
prevention specialists to schools and communities, coordinate media
campaigns to enhance public awareness, and promote local and national
initiatives that impact and prevent substance abuse by addressing risk
and protective factors associated with teen pregnancy, delinquency,
school drop-out, and violence.
